Pali House

Pali House is a 2,228 square foot mid century modern home in Pacific Palisades with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, positioned above a canyon. AGG Construction Group took it through a full gut remodel and handled the design as well as the construction.

The organizing decision was to orient the main living area and the deck toward the canyon rather than treating the view as incidental. The open floor plan and the depth of the roof overhang were worked together, because an overhang that is too shallow lets in glare and one that is too deep darkens the room behind it. Getting that relationship right is what allows a mid century house to be bright without being hot.

The deck was rebuilt as a primary living space rather than an add on, which is consistent with how the original architecture was intended to work. Inside, the house received custom kitchen cabinets, custom stone and countertops, new flooring, and fresh paint throughout. Landscape was rebuilt to complete the transition between the interior and the canyon side of the property.

The scope on this project ran further than most. AGG Construction Group specified the interior finishes, selected the exterior paint colors, and designed the landscape, which means a single team held responsibility for how the house reads from the canyon and from the street as well as from inside. That combined design and build service removes the coordination gap that appears when a homeowner hires a designer, a landscape designer, and a builder separately.
