Remodeling Questions Los Angeles Homeowners Ask
Find quick answers to common questions about home design and remodeling in Los Angeles, timeline, permits, budgeting, scope, and how we work with you from concept to build.
1. Are you licensed and insured, and how can I verify it?
Yes. Aggregate Construction Group holds California contractor license #1034714 and carries general liability and workers compensation coverage. You can check the number and its current status yourself at cslb.ca.gov before you sign anything, and we send current certificates of insurance on request.
2. Do you handle Los Angeles permits and code compliance?
Yes, and we pull the permits ourselves instead of asking you to sign as an owner builder. We prepare and submit plans to LADBS or your local city department and schedule every required inspection through final sign off. Plan check in Los Angeles usually adds a minimum of 4 to 12 weeks before construction can begin, so we build that into the schedule from day one rather than discovering it later. Alternatively, some projects can be done over the counter and/or with express permits, adding virtually no time to your project
3. How long does a project take from first call to final walkthrough?
This can vary greatly depending on project scope and whether or not plans and design selections are already completed. Design and selections usually take 2 to 6 weeks for a kitchen or bathroom, and longer for a whole home. Permits and plan check add roughly 4 to 12 weeks. Construction then runs about 4 to 8 weeks for a basic bathroom, 6 to 12 weeks for a kitchen, and 4 to 8 months for a full home remodel or an ADU. You get a written schedule with those milestones before work starts.
4. What happens if the scope or the cost changes mid project?
Nothing changes without your written approval. If a wall opens up and reveals old wiring, dry rot or a plumbing problem, we stop, document it, price it, and send you a change order before that work begins. Allowances for tile, fixtures and appliances are set in the contract, so if you upgrade a selection you see the difference before you commit to it.
5. How much deposit do you ask for, and how are payments scheduled?
California law caps the down payment on a home improvement contract at $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less, and we work inside that limit. Every payment after it is tied to progress, covering work already completed or materials already delivered. The full payment schedule is written into your contract before you sign.
6. What do I get in the design phase, and does it carry into construction?
You receive scaled plans and elevations, 3D renderings or a virtual walkthrough, a materials and fixtures schedule, and a build ready scope priced against your budget. Because we design and build under one contract, those drawings go straight to permitting and then to our own crews, so nothing gets redrawn, rebid, or lost between two companies.
7. Can you work with my existing plans, my architect, or a contractor who already started?
Yes to all three. We can price and build from plans you already own, coordinate directly with your architect or designer, or take over a project that has stalled with another contractor. Before pricing, we review the drawings against current Los Angeles code and flag anything that will not pass plan check, which is far cheaper to catch on paper than on site.
